Ballroom Course Levels
Basic Six
Basic Six introduces new students to the six most popular Ballroom and Latin dances: Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Tango, Rhumba and Salsa. We teach the basic techniques of partner dancing while each student learns two steps in each dance. Basic Six is an informative and relaxed way to start the process of learning how to dance around the room with a partner.
Pre-Intermediate
Pre-Intermediate Ballroom classes are divided into two groups of dances. One group consists of Waltz, Introduction to Viennese Waltz and American Tango. The other group consists of Foxtrot, Introduction to Quickstep, Rhumba and Cha Cha. Each group has four sections (or four months’ worth of material) and we suggest that the student complete all eight sections before going to the Intermediate level.
Intermediate
The Intermediate level course is designed for the eager social dance student who wishes to expand his/her knowledge and dancing skills. We review steps taught in lower level classes and add new steps and amalgamations. We study proper dance technique, footwork, poise, musicality and floorcraft in greater detail. This course is a confidence builder. Each student should take all 7 dances before progressing to the Pre-Advanced Level.
Pre-Advanced
The Pre-Advanced Ballroom level is designed for the dedicated social dance student who has completed the Intermediate Level Course. We teach Bronze and Silver American and International steps, amalgamations and styling with emphasis on dance technique, proper lead and follow, alignments, footwork, musicality and floorcraft. We strongly encourage all students to memorize the names of steps and to practice popular amalgamations. This course consists of 20 sections which may be taken in any order and may be repeated as desired.
Advanced Workshops
The Advanced Workshop courses are designed for the serious ballroom dance student. Entrance into this class is by permission of the instructor. Students must have a working knowledge of all material taught from the Basic through the Pre-Advanced level courses. Students should be able to recognize the names of steps and be able to perform the steps taught in the lower level classes. We teach and analyze amalgamations which contain Bronze, Silver and Gold American and International Style steps. We pay attention to detail and give individual corrections so each dancer can develop more versatility and greater confidence.
