Course Levels
Basic
The Basic classes are divided into two sections, and cover the fundamental concepts of the dance: walking with a partner, correct posture, rhythm, embrace (dance hold) and the principles of leading and following. The basic to the cross and the forward ochos steps are covered in detail. Both sections are pre-requisites for the next level.
Pre-Intermediate
After getting familiar with the material of the Basic courses, students are ready to move into the more complex movements developed at the Pre-Intermediate level. This level consists of four sections. (All four sections are required, in any order, to proceed to the Intermediate level.) Each section will cover different material, such as half turn to right and left, salida cruzada, back ochos, ocho cortado and paradas. This level gives the student a larger vocabulary of steps and ways to execute them.
Intermediate
The Intermediate level also consists of four sections and is an exciting challenge for those already comfortable with the material of the previous levels. Here we study the more sophisticated patterns that make this dance so unique. We explore fancy leg movements so characteristic of Tango through the following steps: full turns, sacadas, boleos, lapis and embellishments.
Intermediate/Advanced
This level offers the student further study into the essence of Tango. Here we combine the steps they have already learned with more complicated figures. It is an ongoing level, without sections, and classes can be taken as long as desired. The class topics include Milonga, technique, musicality and step combinations.
Advanced
This is the most challenging level of the program and gives the most experienced dancers the opportunity to study and refine the secrets of this dance through advanced step combinations. Intricate movements will be explored, blending the traditional, classic approach with the newest dynamics being developed in Buenos Aires.
